“We can learn from my experience, so the point is when you finding some foreigners, don’t immediately ask them, even though in a polite manner. The most important thing is to see or guess their current mood or facial expression first, before starting a conversation.”
The first thing I would like to tell you about my assignment, I have an assignment from my lecturer in my pronunciation class is finding foreigner in Surabaya City then we must asking some questions to him or her. I think it was challenging my ability of English.
Okay [Day 1]
Our first destination in Tunjungan Plaza Mall
to be honest I and Julia my partner to finding native really confused start from where? we gonna found native, finally we have some lists destination that we can explore. First place we went to Tunjungan Plaza Mall, I think many foreigners there. And ya we found first native near Sogo but he looks rushed, indeed we afraid to talk and stopped him. Then second native we found in food court when we waited our friend, but it failed to stop them, because they were also look hurrying to go to the cinema. The third native we found again, but we still afraid to stop them, they look fierce because there are many tattoos in their hands.
I think it’s quite a search for some foreigner in Tunjungan Mall because we still afraid to start ask them. It was bad habit right, don’t be like that guys😭.
The Second Destination in EF
Failed in Tunjungan Plaza, we went to English First aka EF. But we aren’t lucky there. The Office closed, omggg we felt exhausted to went the next destination.
The Third Destination in Sutos (Surabaya Town Square)
With a tired face we went to Sutos, this mall looks quite and not crowded than before. And surprising moment is in the first door we met a native. As usual we afraid start to talk him, and also he seems hurrying to go home. Finally we haven’t got anything in the third destination, only we bought two beverages.
The fourth destination in Ciputra World
And again we have opportunity from God to see native there, he brought shopping bag form hypermart, automatically we went to hypermart and (again) we aren’t lucky. we haven’t saw native there😭 oh Allah in the fourth destination we still haven’t got anything we want, wanna cry!!! We continued walking and saw a native in front of department store, he looks like waited his wife shopping haha. I think he’s not busy and immediately I asked him, “excuse me Sir, are you busy right now?” with sharp gaze he answered my question “no, I’m not busy, but I haven’t talking to you!” OMG it was really embarrassing moment when he rejected me, even tho I’m really polite to asked him, but no problem go on, no matter hard it is. We feel exhausted and we rest in book store, read some novel may be made us fun.
After that we go home decided to take a break and continue the journey tomorrow to talk to foreigners..
